About this piece
There is something quietly commanding about this bee brooch. The abdomen is set with large faceted blue stones in a rich aqua-teal tone, the kind of color that reads differently in candlelight than it does in the afternoon, and the wings are covered in clear crystal rhinestones pave set within a gold tone veined frame that mimics the fine architecture of an actual wing. Two small green stones serve as eyes. The legs are gold tone, individually detailed. It is a piece built with patience. The finish is gold tone throughout, consistent and warm, and the construction holds up closely to examination. From photographs, condition appears excellent. The C-clasp pin on the back functions cleanly. No maker's marks are present on the reverse. This is an unsigned piece. We do not assign an era or origin we cannot verify, and we will not speculate on the identity of the blue stones beyond describing them as they appear: large, faceted, and a clear aqua-teal blue. What we can say with confidence is that the level of detail here is not casual. Someone took care with this. It would sit well on a lapel, a coat collar, or draped across the shoulder of something dark and plain. The kind of brooch that draws a question or two.
